A GLP-1 meal plan the whole family can eat

Five days of small, protein-first meals: breakfast, lunch, a snack and a family dinner, with 92 to 107 grams of protein a day. That is inside the 80 to 120 grams a 2025 joint advisory suggests on GLP-1 medicines such as Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro and Zepbound. Dinners feed everyone; you take the smaller plate.

What to eat on Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro or Zepbound

The same ideas apply to every GLP-1 medicine (semaglutide and tirzepatide included): protein first, small portions, fiber and water, and easy on grease. They come from the 2025 joint advisory on nutrition for GLP-1 therapy. Your care team can set targets for you.

For more dinners built this way, use the GLP-1 friendly recipe generator with whatever is in your fridge.

Protein at every meal

A 2025 joint advisory from four obesity and nutrition societies suggests 80 to 120 grams of protein a day on these medicines, to help keep muscle while you lose weight. That is roughly 25 to 40 grams a meal, so the protein goes on the plate first.

Small plates, eaten slowly

GLP-1 medicines slow digestion and you fill up sooner. Serve yourself a small plate, eat slowly and stop when you feel full; you can always come back. Leftovers in single portions make tomorrow’s lunch.

Fiber and plenty of water

Constipation is common. Beans, lentils, vegetables, berries, oats and whole grains add fiber, and soups add fluid. Keep a glass of water with every meal.

Easy on grease and very rich food

Fried, greasy or very rich meals are the ones most likely to sit heavily and bring on nausea. Roast, bake, simmer and sear instead, and keep sauces light.

Every bite counts for more

When you eat much less, each meal has to carry more nutrition. The advisory recommends mostly whole, minimally processed food, with fewer sweets, sugary drinks and less alcohol.

Make the plan fit your week

The free meal planner writes a new week of GLP-1 friendly dinners in about a minute, around what’s already in your fridge, with one grocery list. Find your own protein number with the protein calculator.

With Plus, mark yourself as on a GLP-1 in your family profile. Every recipe then ends with a plate sized for you next to everyone else’s, and a new plan arrives every Saturday.

GLP-1 meal plans: questions people ask

What does a day of eating look like on a GLP-1?

Four small, protein-first meals: for example a cup of Greek yogurt with berries for breakfast, a tuna wrap or last night’s leftovers for lunch, a string cheese or two eggs as a snack, and a modest plate of the family dinner. Vegetables, fruit and some whole grains add fiber; water goes with every meal.

How do I get 100 grams of protein a day on Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro or Zepbound?

Spread it out, because a big portion is hard to finish. About 25 grams at breakfast (a cup of Greek yogurt), 25 to 30 at lunch (a can of tuna or leftovers), 10 from a snack (string cheese, edamame, two eggs) and 35 to 40 at dinner gets you there. A 2025 joint advisory suggests 80 to 120 grams a day on these medicines; the protein calculator has a GLP-1 setting.

How many calories should I eat on a GLP-1?

There is no single number, and it is one to set with your doctor or dietitian. Most people eat much less without trying. The bigger risk is eating too little protein and too few nutrients, which is why this plan counts protein first.

What foods should I avoid on a GLP-1?

Nothing is strictly off limits, but fried food, greasy takeout, very rich or creamy dishes, large portions and lots of sugar or alcohol are the most likely to cause nausea or discomfort. Many people also find carbonated drinks make them feel fuller.

Can my family eat the same dinners?

Yes, that is how this plan is written. Every dinner serves four to six with rice, tortillas or bread on the side for anyone who wants them. You take the protein and vegetables first and a smaller plate.

Is this plan medical advice?

No. It is cooking guidance for people on GLP-1 medications, not a substitute for advice from your doctor, pharmacist or a registered dietitian, who can set your own protein and calorie targets.

Cooking guidance, not medical advice. Talk to your doctor, pharmacist or a registered dietitian about your own protein and calorie targets, especially if you have diabetes or kidney disease.
