What to make with cabbage

Cabbage makes egg roll in a bowl, fried cabbage with sausage, an unstuffed cabbage roll skillet, hearty cabbage soup, crunchy slaw for fish tacos, stir-fries and roasted cabbage wedges. One head goes a long way for very little money, and a whole head keeps for weeks in the fridge.

Kitchen notes on cabbage

Store it whole

A whole head of cabbage keeps two weeks or more in the crisper drawer. Once cut, wrap it tightly and use it within a few days.

Cook it fast or slow

Stir-fry thin shreds over high heat for 4 to 5 minutes to keep a crunch, or cook it low and slow in butter until soft, sweet and golden.

Win over kids with butter

Thinly sliced cabbage cooked slowly in butter with a pinch of salt turns mild and sweet. It is the easiest way to start.
